Hi! I’m Kara, owner of Blue Velvet Exchange.

The journey began humbly — selling secondhand clothes out of a 1987 Ford Econoline Ambulance in downtown Jersey City, New Jersey. From flea markets to concerts, the truck found thousands of happy customers and new homes for countless pieces of clothing.

From there, I took the next step and opened Fringe Modern & Vintage, a thrift shop in my hometown of Clinton, CT. After five wonderful years, I was ready for a new adventure — creating a more curated, fun thrift experience in my old college neighborhood of Black Rock.

And here we are! Blue Velvet Exchange is all about bringing joy to our community through an inclusive, locally loved thrift shop with a one-of-a-kind vibe. I hope you’ll stop by and shop with us soon!
